OK. I’ve recently read blogs and had conversations about much people are hating facebook.

Now sure, I never want to be a knight or a pirate. I’m not going to grow a virtual garden or tend to a virtual fish tank. Superpoking is getting rather old. And colored backgrounds, might just put me over the edge….

But I like seeing what’s going on in people’s lives, even if from a distance.

I love that there is a virtual class reunion every day as we celebrate houses selling, babies born, families expanding, classmates living their dreams, and ministries thriving.

Through facebook, I’ve been able to connect with friends and acquaintances in ministry. I’ve seen what they’re doing (church planting, thriving youth ministries, and getting ORANGE!). I’ve been able to learn from them. They pray for me; I can pray for them. It really maximizes the impact we can all have in the kingdom.

I’ve met new friends at church and found babysitters and actors. I’ve realized I have more in common with people that I thought possible (They Might Be Giants! Who Knew?!).

I’ve even been able to keep up to date with our family members that span the globe these days – celebrating new jobs, engagements, and fun trips in Spain (we’re not jealous, Tom, I promise!).

So, to all the haters out there: Stop dissin’ facebook and give it a try.
